"I grew up in Nova Scotia, and as a child, I always entered my painting in the local Harvestfest’s Fall Festival art competition. Sometimes I would win--$1.00! That was wondrous for something I loved doing anyway! I studied painting through the school and fell into my present and most beloved ceramic sculpture by complete accident. A canceled painting class, a desperate need to be doing art and a pottery class having an opening. After having pounds of clay fly off the wheel, I turned to hand building and sculpture. I discovered I could paint on a form I produced which combined all my loves. I will forever be infatuated with this intriguing and addictive process.

The focus of this current series manifested itself from a tragedy in my garden. My favorite chicken was beheaded by a brazen raccoon in broad daylight while I was puttering mere flowerbeds away. The terrible feeling of not tending to my brood carefully enough came streaming out in the form of this “Guardian Series”. These “sentries” guard against evil spirits and flora and fauna. Beware marauding varmints.
